Teen Book Club Nothing To Lose by Alex Flinn Buy book: $10.72
This haunting novel from the acclaimed author of "Breathing Underwater" looks at one of the most devastating realities for teenagers today--domestic violence.
I didn't think I'd be interested in another teen-running-from-trouble book, and certainly not one revolving around a carnival. But I like the writing; the story starts right away with the background being filled in just enough to keep you informed. I think I'll like this one.
This book does not "revolve" around a carnival. This story is about a boy that found a way out of his mom's abusive relationship. Regarding weather it was the right choice or not.
I liked the first chapter and everything it's just that some books are bad in the beging or bad at the end or even the other way around so ill have to see about this one and get back to it later...
Well he had to lie to the cops... he couldn't stand to stay in an abusive house like that. If that happened to me i would have lied to because i wouldn't tolerate to see someone that marryed my mom which would me he "loves" her beat her like that .... and that would tell me he is going to kill me... see my point of view?
I didn't really think this book had a great chapter 1, but after reading chapt 2, I am enjoying it. Why? I do not know. I think its because its in first person, so you actually know what the character is thinking. I think I have read the story "Breathing Underwater" @ school. I think its a short story, and was in a English textbook. Correct me if I'm wrong. I didn't like that story thought, but it had great uses of words, it made you feel like you were really there.
I checked this book out at the library yesterday, and it was so good, I read the whole thing before going to bed. Seriously, this book was amazing - it's probably going to be one of my favorite books now. I totally recommend going out and getting this book and reading the rest of it. :)
actually breathing under water was a book, it, like what ive read of this one so far, was intense but really good, if you havent read it and like htis one, check it out.

This is interesting, and I will put it on my list of books to read. I have quite a few because of this book club. Anyway, I am surprised his mother didn't contact the police or something about being abused, although I have never been in that situation, and I don't know what is going through your mind.
See you next week-

I thought this book was absolutely fanatastic! I checked it out from the library and it was finished by the end of the next day. I was a little weary about the book it the beginning. I was never a fan of the "carnival" books. I always find it weird when people run away to join the circus. But you soon realize that this story is about abuse and the people affected by it.
you are looking at the book in a different way.... the mom couldn't have called the police because the husband would beat her to death ... like how they couldn't even talk normal in the house when he was home or they would get beat. and thats way he ran away ... it drove him crazy to do every thing out of fear.
