Mystery Book Club Perdition House by Kathryn R. Wall Buy book: $16.73 A young, beautiful, old-moneyed widow fights to uncover family secrets in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Imbued with the history, traditions, and strict social manners of the Deep South, the Bay Tanner mysteries are original, fast-paced, page-turners.
Have not read any of the Bay Tanner mysteries - but looks like a good beginning - giving us lots of info at the very beginning - but not enough to satisfy - leaving us wanting to know more -
The book hasn't grabbed me yet. Too many cliches and too much "purple prose". I am looking forward to tomorrow's selection.....only because I hope it's better than today's!
This is very slow starting. There are a lot of questions that are not answered and I do not think that I would normally read something that took so long to get going or to at least give some sort of back story that made sense. Hopefully it gets going tomorrow.
I agree that this book was slow to get the story line going but I am hooked now that I have read excerpt #3. I can't wait to find out why the father dropped his teacup when first seeing Mary. If parts 4 and 5 are equally engaging, I will put this one on my list.
I am glad to see that I wasn't the only one that was having a problem getting into this one. I love a good mystery, this just doesn't seem like one of them.
I have been waiting to make a judgement, and today cliched it--I am caught up in this one. There is so much more to know, and I want to read the rest to learn what is really going on.
Okay, another short read - just not good at all- hardly any info at all this morn. and they do not have this book at my library - a nice supper and fire in the fireplaces and all that but what is this girl up to and why? - I feel sort of like the fifth cousin "MORE SOUP PLEASE" -
This part of the book started to get me interested. However, it bothers me when there are vague references to past events in the characters pasts and then no follow through. Perhaps I find it more frustrating in this forum when I cannot just continue reading to find what I am missing. But I am interested to know why he dropped his glass when he saw her. Any ideas? Maybe she looks like someone that he had an affair with and no one knew about it? Maybe that is why she was hesitant to go to the house first?
Alexis, you are right - this forum does make us slow down a bit - sometimes may be good for us to chew on the words and get all the taste and juices out - other times frustrating - okay, I'm done with that bite, let's have another -
I, being a little impatient, many times will go searching on the web to find more about the author, reviews, or if lucky an excerpt on amazon -
Today, I was lucky in the fiction club searching, to find an interview with the author - just some sharing of your frustration and some ideas you may want to try - Doris -
Do want to finish this book - find out the "rest of the story" - alas, my library has nothing by this author - don't understand - may have to purchase this one -
Such a pleasant night with piano playing and judge enjoying so much - to be interrupted by police banging at the door - glad she had the where-with-all (is that right?) to keep the bag - wherein I think lies the answer or answers to this mystery -
The first section did not get me involved but the second one did indeed. I plan to get this book as soon as I can. It seems to me that this will definitely be a page turner.
