Swear to Howdy

September 18 2004, 9:41 PM

I read this book last year, and it is so sad and disgusting. A character dies, and there is some pretty gross humor. I won't be reading this week's selection again.

Not for me

September 20 2004, 8:19 AM

This book does have quite a bit of gross humor. I am not really interested in it so far. Sometimes you think it's funny until you know what they are really talking about. Then its just plain gross.

YUCK!

September 20 2004, 3:44 PM

Agh...that was not..pleasent. The first bit was alright but when they got to the bit about..yeah..it went sort of..gag. I am trying to explain it without sounding so illiterate, yet I am not succeeding. Anyway, I think this book would go over better with boys then with girls, even though I don't mean to stereotype.

Ewww!

I am really not sure that I like this book at all. I think all of us so far have the same opinion. Just plain gross. I don't think I want to read it anymore. This book is just not for me.

I don't agree with you all

September 21 2004, 11:03 PM

I really think this could be a funny book. Maybe the humour is a bit sophomoric, but come on, what do you expect from two young-adult males as main characters?? I really think my little brother (12 yrs old) would like it, but I think a true, good reader can look past the gross-out humour to the story.

12..

September 22 2004, 4:28 PM

Yeah, I'm 12, and I know the boys at my school would love a book like this. I, however, just don't really like that kind of humor, where it's gross sort of humor, I prefer regular things that just mae you lauh out loud. Ex: Has anyone ever read Son of the Mob? I absolutely adore that book, it's the funniest thing I've ever read!

Sammy Keyes

September 21 2004, 9:20 PM

I totally agree with you, Lindsay. Also by the author is the Sammy Keyes series. I used to like these books, but I started reading them in fifth grade (I'm in ninth now), and Sammy is still in seventh grade! Her writing has definately gone down the drain. For a good read, try The Garden or the Daughters of the Moon series.

I have not read this book, but I agree that the sammy keyes books are really good books and I think that she should keep writing them. I think the Wendelin Van Draanen is good writer but I have not read any of her resent books so I am juging this on the sammy keyes books try reading them and maybe you will change you mind about Wendelin Van Draanen I will be shure to read this new book though

Well..

September 22 2004, 7:32 AM

I just thought I'd mention this! While the book *does* have some odd humour, the character descriptions are very well done, and you can get a pretty good feel of even small character..or..well.people who have a lesser part in the story. Sorry, I forgot the word for it.

Ok Now

September 22 2004, 8:12 AM

This section of the book was fine, it wasn't gross. The section that we read today just wasn't very interesting. I got pretty bored actually. How does dimond dolls fit into the topic of the book?

I agree... but

September 22 2004, 10:50 AM

Today's section was pretty tame, but don't get involved with the girls- one of them dies. Has anyone read any * really * great books recently?

Dies..

September 22 2004, 4:25 PM

One of the girls dies!?!?!?!? That is an odd, sick twist I wouldn't have thought of. This book gives the impression of being a comedy! Yuck.

Anyway, I have! I recently read "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "A Wrinkle in Time". I loved both of them! Also, I just read a lot of the Georgia Nicholson series which was very good, even if a little bit of the humor was bit crude.

Howdy

September 23 2004, 8:17 AM

Todays read was gross also. I would hate to take a sip out of a coke and find a bug sitting in there. I would think I was about to die. A girl dies? Now that is it, I will read tomarrows section and then just stop. I really think this book is quite strange.

Boys

September 23 2004, 9:51 AM

Hey,can't at least one boy post his opinion? I'd really like to know what a boy thinks of this book.

Laura, I love Georgia too! Weren't you so sad when SG moved to NZ? I can't wait to find out what happens on her trip to the U.S.

This is one of the few major flops in this club. Hopefully next weeks' book will be better.

Howdy

September 24 2004, 8:04 AM

I cannot believe that Joey put bugs in everyones cup. I wouldn't blame the father to walk home, because after that I would want to get home as quick as possible also. This section was a cliff hanger and I thought that was pretty interesting, because I kind of wanted to find out what will happen next, untill I remembered what I have been reading.
