Everybody's Normal Till You Get to Know Them
by John Ortberg
Buy book: $10.70

In his new book Ortberg explores the biblical vision of community as the place God made for us and the place where God meets us. Using the same popular, conversational style of his bestselling book "If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat, " Ortberg invites readers to experience the richness and depth of true community.

Everybody's Normal

I love the way this book begins. Comparing human beings to items in a shop sold "as is". I have always seen people as basically good or bad; relationships as worth the effort, or not. I like "as is".

I just went through Genesis in the Bible and thought the exact same way. We all have been weird since the beginning of time. But that is where imperfection comes into play and it just makes me feel better to know I am far from it...just like everyone else out there. We are all the same...weird!

This book is very insightful. I cannot wait to see it tomarrow.

Everybody's weird

I love the illustrations and examples that John Ortberg uses in this book. The "as is" and what "shalom" would look like, although I don't think the pizza would be non-fat :-)

This book seems to be a nice complement to a book with a similar theme that I'm also reading right now "TrueFaced" by Thrall, McNicol, and Lynch. We should stop hiding behind our masks of pretending to be good, successful, etc and trust God and others with who we really are. Then our world could start looking more like the "shalom" that Ortberg describes. I recommend reading both books.
