Oi!

Wow. I almost always love everything that comes down the dearreader pipeline, but I have to say this one seems to be a stinker.

When the first paragraph contains the line "Like a priapic wedding cake", I basically want to give up. I might read tomorrow's installment, but without VAST improvement in writing style this is going straight to the "deleted items" folder in outlook.

Way too much

There was way too much discription in this book. I could not complete the first paragraph. The story also included words that I would have to use a dictionary, just to understand what they mean. Hopefully the story improves, but I did not enjoy the first part.

I have to disagree with the previous responses. I am enjoying this read even though I don't usually like sci-fi. I love learning new words and have already noted three that I will have to look up. I find it an enjoyable challenge that adds to the fun of reading something new.

Yikes.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Unless this is a new style for Tepper, I'm surprised she's sold any books at all. It's like a train wreck - I just couldn't stop reading the $10-word-every-other-word sentences to see if I knew any of them or even guess what they meant. I have a decent vocabulary, but anyone that uses a thesaurus to make him- or herself sound smarter is just trying too hard.

Ouch...serious ouch

Though I usually enjoy finding new big words and expanding my vocabulary...this book has me totally lost. If anyone has any idea what is going on here, do tell. Was anyone else surprised that the main character is only eight? i could have sworn she was at least in her teens.

Ponderous Tomes

I had to look up four words, one of which was the girl's name. This makes it unreadable? Not having read anything previously written by this author, I have no idea if this is better or worse than previous stories. All I know is that given the chance I will read more of this story. It has a few inovations I have not come across before.
