Reflecting on her own reading life, Malone examines the role that reading plays in defining the self. Throughout, she likens the experience of reading to walking a labyrinth, itself a metaphor for journeys through life.

Wow! I am enthralled. I myself have been labeled by my coworkers as an avid reader. I read and reap so many rewards from my reading. My recent endeavors to expand my reading to other genres than the norm has opened up new realms of possibilities and has made me think about how I view myself, the world, and my Maker. I won't be able to hold myself back. I found this book is in at my library, and I will be snatching it up. I am intrigued and am looking forward to a good soak in the bath and this good book to go with it:)

Mysteries of Language

February 17 2005, 8:46 AM

This week I have been reading Helen Keller's autobiography alongside these daily excerpts, and I find myself amazed by the mystery of language and its role in making us human. Reading about someone else's journey - figurative or literal - can strike a chord within us and make us grow. This shows how deeply connected we are to one another and to God. If you like the idea of spiritual development through reading, I would recommend Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi. Professor Nafisi took the risk of moderating a book club of sorts with several female students in Tehran, despite the censorship and anti-feminist politics present in the society.
