If you love Sherlock Holms and you've always wished there was a woman who could be his counterpart this is the book series for you. I think it kept with the mystery of the original Sherlock character. And there is just the tiniest bit of romance.
I would suggest reading it in order though.
Mary Russel Series
1. The Beekeeper’s Apprentice
5. O Jerusalem (should be 2nd)
2. A Monstrous Regiment of Woman
3. A Letter of Mary
4. The Moor
6. The Game
I work at a branch library in my town and I've always lingered over the various Laurie King novels in our collection (my branch has a good many). I've always wanted to crack one open but for one reason or another (read: "one book or another") I've never gotten around to it.
Suffice to say, that egregious streak is about to come to a close. Miss King might have just picked up another fan.
I was knocked out of my socks at how involving and entertaining this first read was. I'll definitely be checking this one out very soon. Great selection this week!
So far I'm loving this book! I've already ordered The Beekeeper's Apprentice so I can start reading the series from the beginning. Thanks, Tina, for the list.
I love Laurie King's books that are set in contemporary times; she is a great writer. But there is a gene, maybe the historical mystery fiction gene, missing in me. The funny thing is, if I perserved I would probably get hooked on the characters but I just don't want to.
This book is not for me either. It reminds me of the Amelia Peabody books by E Peters. Some people just love them but to me they are incredibly stupid and boring. So you are right- we must be missing something.
