The "New York Times" bestselling author pens the conclusion to her Wife Lottery trilogy. Although his father bought Lacy Larson as his bride, Captain Walker Larson has no desire for a wife. When Walker is ordered by the military to protect Lacy from a killer, he wonders if their marriage is a far better gamble than either of them had imagined.

I own and highly recommend this book and series, as this is the third installment, to everyone who loves to cry, laugh and love along with the book characters.

I've read all of this series but don't remember much about them. I think they were ok, but not great. The one thing that I remember distinctly is being very bothered by this opening scene (Thursday). Even though she asked for the consummation, I was bothered by it the first time I read it and bothered by it again this time. I think the author does a good job of letting us inside his head to try to understand his actions, but nevertheless I am very disturbed by it. I would never recommend this book because of this opening scene, although if I recall, the rest of the book is fine.

While it wasn't too graphic that scene came across to me as brutal. I was shocked he followed through. I didn't think he would.

Great action in this book, written like you could actually have been with the characters in the same room!

Definatly worth reading!

Wow! I'm really excited to read the rest of this book. And I was happy to find out that this is the last of a trilogy. So now I am off to the library!

When a Texan Gambles

April 8 2005, 7:53 AM

I liked the preview and wanted to read it right away. Then I found out it was part of a series, so I checked out the first two of the Wife Lottery before I read this one. I hate reading a series out of order.

Overall, I was quite pleased. The stories moved at a good pace, the characters and plots were interesting and likeable.

I thought "A Texan's Wager" and "When a Texan Gambles" were a tad better than the second book, "A Texan's Luck", but they all were worthwhile. I have never read a western book and was not overly anxious at the thought, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I recommend this series. I have requested that my library order "The Texan's Reward" that comes out in November. I have also added Jodi Thomas to my favorite author list.
