Part I

March 28 2005, 12:37 PM

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the book club and this is the first full novel I have the opportunity to read. I don't usually like to read books set in the early 1900's but this novel seems well written and draws you in right away. I look forward to reading the rest of the story. Hope you all had a good holiday season. I look forward to conversing with you soon.

I don't usually like books in this time period either (unless they are biographical/memoirs)but this might be okay. The jacket blurb sounds promising.

Intriguing!

This book has taken me by surprise as I did not have a clue from the title what this book was about!

I knew that Houdini was into finding true psychics but never had seen any novels about this. It intrigues me greatly. I like the author of Sherlock Holmes telling the story so far. I suspect I will have to get a copy of this book as I will want to know what happens with "the evil that is let loose."

All the makings of a B& W flim of the 1930's or even today for that matter. I shall contiue reading for my personal pleasure.

I find it takes a bit for me to get into the rhythms of the speech in a book set historically like this one but then the characters take over and it ceases to be a chore and becomes natural.

Pretty Good

I admit I was skeptical about a book starring a fictitious Doyle and Houdini (sp?) - also surprised someone can actually do that.. but no matter. So far, it's tremendous. The atmosphere and charm of a period piece, without the thick, sloggy prose of yesteryear. I'm very impressed, and pleasantly surprised so far.

Ive only read a few chapters and it seems like a good written book so far. Houdini always a good topic to write about.
