I'm not sure if I'm up to reading this one...seems a little dense for my brain which is feeling a little feeble this morning...maybe after I finish my coffee!

Well, perhaps due to already having had my coffee, I really really like this excerpt. He has a great way of packing a lot of useful social/milieu history into a brief passage. I'm definitely going to buy this one. Thanks!

Henry Hudson

May 17 2005, 10:44 AM

I was fascinated to read yesterday's excerpt, as I discovered a couple of years ago when tracing my genealogy that Henry Hudson the explorer was my 8 times great-grand uncle. I have also been to the site of St. Dunstan's in the East church in London, where according to this book, his grandfather was buried. Of course, I didn't know anything about it at the time. The church was blown up during the Second World War, so only its outer shell remains, and it has been converted into a lovely, though slightly eerie, gardens. Anyway, a strange bit of coincidence to arrive in one's mailbox on an otherwise dull Monday morning at work. I shall look forward to what happens next!
