Gray is one of the Lucky Seven, the group every girl at Fielding Academy wants to belong to. But those inside this enchanted circle know it's less about feeling accepted in the group and more about making sure the other girls don't turn on you.
i read the first chapter and really enjoyed it. i have had trouble getting into the book week books recently, but this one sounded interesting. when i read that they were only in 7th grade i was a bit dissapointed. i had hoped that they would be in the 9th grade at least..it is hard to relate to characters who are three years younder than me. older would be easier. other than that, though, the book seems interesting so far and i will keep reading the exerpts this week to see if the age difference does matter.
This book does seem to be good, but I was disappointed to discover that the characters are only in 5th grade. I mean its tough relating to a girl 4 years younger than you, even if you were 10 once too.
But it still seems like a good book.

I think that it is easyier to get into a book if you have already been there. I am 16 and I reed adult books more than kids books, but it is hard to understand how the characters feel if you have never been there yourself.
I started reading this book wednesday and i missed the first chapter, but I still think that it is sounding like it may be a good book. I will read this and see the first chapter and see for myself if it will be good.
The description seems interseting but the first expert was very boring. so far there hasn't really been any action.
It has a very cliche feeling. There's the 'in group' that every body wants to be part of. But one of them is different and doesn't fit in the same way, etc. etc.
I hope that in the next few experts it gets a new twist that might change the way i feel.
i started to read this book ithink this book is interesting but heres something to chew on today i was searching for some new authors iris johansens book named the search and move to strike by perri oshaughnessy and the vendetta defense by lisa scottoline i picked these up at a second hand book store for 1dollar apiece . i personally would like to see more of these in the teen section or adult fiction . check these titles out . suzanne let me know what you think

i see that gray is sort of an outsider. i have felt like she has many of times. it's not fun being on the outside i mean not being popular. for years i have worried about why i'm not so popular like the other girls in my grade level. i recently have stopped worrying about being popular and i'm glad to be just a regular girl. i wouldnt want to be in gray's situation at all. the only thing i'm sad about is gray and her friends are way younger than i am. i was hoping that the author had made them fifteen or sixteen and in the 10th or 11th grade.
Reading the next expert I find that i really don't like Gray at all. At first she seemed fairly nice, but now i find at least as rude to her mother as some of the other girls treat people not in the lucky seven. Her mother has cancer and she's mad at her whenshe brings in s seeping bag because it's not the right one. She was the one who forgot it, she shouldn't be upset at her mother, she was kind enough to go get it. Besides her mother a\has cancer. This shows me a very stuck up side of gray. I don't feel sorry for her and i don't like her.
I also think it would have been nice to actually read about somebody who's in grade 10 or 11. I'm suprised though that Gray actually thinks that stuff like sleeping bags are important, when i was her age the only two things sleeping bags were good for were 1 sleeping (duh) 2. going down my friends really long staircase in it on full speed which was pretty fun but resulted in a lotta headaches.so maybe gray is just really insecure if she gets that upset about a sleeping bag.
I think the book is interseting so far but that's not what I want to say right now. I was wondering when we're going to get a fun book. You know, like a comedy or a romantic comedy. That is the kinda book I LOVE!!! And I think this club is mostly girls soo...
I read an article about a new genre that has picked up speed in the past couple years. It's become really popular. It's the Chick Lit genre or something like that. They're all bright, happy, and VERY GOOD books! Like the series Sisterhood Of the Traveling Pants and I think another one is the A list series or something like that. Anyways, maybe we can have one of those books once in a while. The past books we've been reading have been kinda sad and serious. I want one where I can get a good laugh. That's just my opinion and sorry I typed too much. I do think this book is interesting though!
\L\A\U\R\A\ (Sorry, I was bored!:!:!:! JK!!)
just wanted to comment on laura's message and say that the sisterhood of the traveling pants was an awesome book!i recomend it to everyone and im pretty sur the characters are 15-16 yrs. old so thst solve some of ur problems right there. i found it easy to connect with the characters even tho im younger than that,so its a good all-around book age wise...prolly good 4 12 yrs and
up.
I love the book Sister hood of the traveling pants. I know the author and she's really great. I'm not to excited for the movie though, in my opinion it looks awful and a bad take off.
i totally agree with jodi. gray seems very...hmmm...annoyingly mean and rude.i cant imagine ever getting mad over a sleeping bag, puhleeez!she's in 6th grade, not kindergarten.im debating on wether to ignore this book or look deeper.someone give me thier thoughts, thanks.

i read this book on the letter they send to us and so far it's great though...i agree with kara...it's hard to relate to characters or even people that aren't in your grade...i think that the reason is because we're able to know what it's like to be in that grade...i think we know that because i guess you could say...it's like every body in your grade is in your own little world...i mean i know this first hand it's harder to understand or even hang out with someone that is not in your grade (world) because you don't know what's happening in their's...
*also i would like to know where this Lucky Seven started from...because i know myself how i started clubs...i mean i might not be the must popular girl in school but i have great ideas that are followed by many people...*

I don't really see why Gray is so upset about her sleeping bag. I know they all have cool sleeping bags, but it is just one night. I think the enchanted game looks boring and agree with Gray about its stupidity.
I feel bad for Gray's mom and brother because Gray yells at her mother because Gray forgot her sleeping bag. It isn't her mother's fault that Gray forgot her sleeping bag. I think Gray is spoiled, and all of the 'lucky seven' are spoiled.
i acually think the age is perfect for when i was that age it was just like that. i was also in the cool group but then i wasnt in a way. i was only excepted into it cause i was the only one who wasnt afriad of the boys so they sorta used me for protection or something stuped. i dont really like Gray, she is rude to her mother. i can understand that she is mad sorta in a way cause the pressure is very big with stuff like that. its pretty dumb. i dont really care what the sleeping bag looks like as long as its warm. i will probaly get it out.
Why on earth would you want to be around people who were mean to you and played tricks on you. Or ignored you for fun? Certainly you should have more respect for yourself then to put up with that crap. Who needs it.
I gotta say that this book is pretty boring so far.
My opinion on books that we shouldn't do any more chick flicks. Their way to many of them and they all pretty much have the same plot line, the same cliques, the 'mean girls' and the 'nice girls'. Can we consider doing some more serius books for teens?? All the chick flick stuff is getting on my nerves. The only reason you read it is to either see how the 'cool rich' girls live or to show yourself that they have bigger problems to. How about something like House of Scorpians by Nancy Farmer. It's an amazing books and one of my favorites.
Thanks for the book suggestion!! I will totally check that out next time I go to the library! I just went yesterday and reserved the last two week's books and go Breakthrough or whatever it was 3 weeks ago and this book. I just kinda have a thing that when I start a book I HAVE to finish it so I'm getting every book that I get an e-mail for. Today in school i almost drove myself crazy trying to remember all the books I've read this school year. We have to make a list for next year's Reading teacher. I only could remeber last month and my list is at about 25, still can't remeber the rest. It is torture. JK. Just felt like sharing that!!
\L\A\U\R\A\ (I'm bored again!JK!!!)
I still agree with my thought about Gray. She called her mother to tell her about the sleeping. I think her cancerous mom needs a break. She already made a few extra trip that day because GRAY forgot her sleeping bag. She was also rude to tell them her feelings about the Enchanted Castle game and to quit playing.
I don't think that Gray is spoiled or means to be rude. I think that she is just going through an especially tough time now that her mother is sick. Besides, she is very young and still feels dependent on her mother, so it must be very hard for her to be told that her mother can't help her with a lot of things anymore.
Although I prefer to read books with characters my age, I still think that "Overnight" is interesting and I would like to read more.
Mandy, even if she doesn't mean to be rude she still is. She should realizes that her mother is the one going through the tougher time, not her. It's probably because she's younger but who cares. Her mam's practicly dying and she's complaining about her sleeping bag.
I agree Mandy! I think that Gray is going through a tough time, and she really wants to fit in with the other 'Lucky Seven.' But I think that she could find better friends because the 'Lucky Seven' seem pretty mean and spoiled.
(to comment on Abby's posting)
i dont understand ow this is a hard time 4 gray even tho her mom has cancer. if gray was really having a hard time wouldn't she, 1. talk to her mom about her illness and try not to be rude and mean twards her
2. find some real friends and get some support from them
3.or at least blow off some steam and get really mad at the lucky seven
ok, heres my list of MUST reads(books ive read and totally loved)
1. my favorite book of all time 'Dreamland' anyone ever read it? its so sad but realistic
2.'A Complicate Kindness' its about a teen girl who lives in a amish community, its actually pretty funny, but not for the weak of heart
3. A Series Of Unfortunate Events. sure its like tweens and younger but i reall enjoy reading the books.
my bro wantz to go on teh computer so
thatz all 4 now ya'll

Well Ann...even if you were in an "In" crowd that played tricks on you you could be doing that because you feel insecure or you want people to think highly of you because you want to be popular...i know i've been like Gray and you have to remember that the character is like that for a reason...it all has to do with the plot of the book...but i'm sure if Gray was a real person she wouldn't put up with that crap...or it could be the author's way of showing you that indecision - hopefully Gray will catch a clue and blow from the group...
im getting really into this now. i must must get this book out.
who is this weird lady? The neighbour?
she said that she thought the house could use a radio and some lights on.
i really dont think she is a 'Helping Hands' person because first she said that she was the neighbour then she was a helping hands person.
she might be both but i dont think so. what do you think?
Even though many people think/say that they like the book more because of the mystery woman on the 4th book email of "Overnight" I don't. It actually doesn't make much sense and kind of takes away from the book. It doesn't describe the scene very well and is kind of out of place. Also, why doesn't Gray like the painting of the Autumn fairies?
This is weird. People have written, "I heard they are in 7th grade...." and also "I heard they were 10" I didn't read anything in the book about their ages, but they play games like "Enchanted Castle" so that leads me to thinking they are younger.
"Later that morning, one of the school secretaries delivered Gray's
sleeping bag to the sixth-grade classroom. It was not her fairy-folk
bag. It was the navy blue bag that her father took on fishing trips."
She might be in a higher grade but i dont think so cause why would the secretary drop off the sleeping bag to another class room that Gray doesnt go to. The are playing a pretty babyish game but some people like that stuff. The other girls dont really like it so that shows sorta that its just kinda a babyish thing Caitlin likes, i collect teddy bears so thats sorta babyish.
this book seems really good so far...but i wonder how Gray's mom got sick and what it was...anyways i'm guessing that "Helping Hands" is a organization that helps you went your sick and takes care of your children...well anyways like Ann...i would like to know who this lady is...i mean she shows up acting like she's one of Caitlin's relatives, then she acts like Mrs Nunez with the whole radio and lights thing, and then she starts acting like Gray's mother sent for her to pick Gray up...that just seems really creepy ...and the way they describe her is really weird she...i don't know...i just think that, that might be the reason why Gray dissappeared...and if so, i want to know why?... maybe this lady's holding a grudge or something ...i don't know...that lady's got me confused ...
I don't think i'd go with that mystery woman even if I thought she was a helping hands. Don't ya think that her mom would have called her and told her that a helping hands was coming by?? My mom would even though she doesn't use helping hands and she doesn't have cancer but....
ANYWAY!! I think this is a good book and I might just start reading it tonight. I already got it from the library so I might just quick finish Breakout (4 weeks ago's book??) tonight, (reading for the next 3 hours which i wouldn't mind but..) I might just quick finish Breakout tonight and then start reading Overnight. I love good mysteries and good chick-books!! Nevermind, I LOVE ALL BOOKS!!! Except for the bad ones. LOL!!
\L\A\U\R\A\ (yep, i'm bored again!!)
hey laura, how was break out? we had a lot of debate over that book and i want to hear it from someone who's read it if its good or not.
peace out

wowo 37 comments on this book so far, thats so awesome
so the other girls think that Gray's mother's cancer is cured? What's going on there? The scene with the weird woman didn't ring true to me, I can't believe that Gray would really go with her or even let her into the house in the first place without letting Caitlin's mother know.
Reading the comments is better than the book.
Gray must be a complete morn to go with that lady!!!
Isn't like the first thing you learn in Kindergarten 'never talk to strangers'?!?!??!?!
She must be a really stupid to try something like that even if she thinks she's with the Helping hands.
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. I was just coming to post and look at this!!

Replies 45!! That has to be like a new record or something! COOL! I think this book is awsome and i'm going to start reading it right away so i can find out what happens!!

Laura, the most replies ever was for the fiction book "my sister's keeper' which had 60 responses. I read that book and i loved it. i can understand how the first 20 or so pages can bring up such controversy.
I finished this book and was very dissapointing. I really didn't like the ending and the plot line was pointless. In my opinion, it didn't even HAVE a plot line! I am not going to tell the end or anything, but I suggest you don't read this book.
That's kool! I don't know if anyone will read this so i'll post this again next week but...
i thought Break Out was quite interesting. It was a little confusing and i wouldn't read it unless you ran out of books. Not like you can cause there are like over 50,000 books but if you can't find one that you really want to read then you can always get this one. It was an interesting veiw at the world. LOL. Just my thoughts though
I have read this book before. It is pretty good although rather cliche, lacking in what I like to call 'beautiful language' and kind of boring. There is no action and the overall idea made me feel sick. I don't know why. It's the whole Pay-it-Forward-movie-it's-sick-what-goes-on-in-people's-minds-and-lives conspiracy. Oh well. I thought it was pretty good.
