My grandfather passed away in 1924 from a kidney infection. The immediate result was that his two sons and daughter, the oldest, my dad at 16 was told he had to abandon his love of science and hope to be a physician, because of shortage of funds. He always thought it remarkable that several years later penicillin, the drug that could have cured his dad was discovered. He always called it "The Miracle Drug."
This is a wonderful book so far in my opinion. I have had an interest in mold for a while. In January, I put a bunch of different foods into a jar and let them sit there until they grew mold. the bread grew mold first. It was a kind of mold I have never seen before, and it was called Rhizopus (I looked it up). I think it also grows on oranges. anyway, I am really enjoying this book.
So far I'm enjoying this book. I joined this book club to expand my horizons. I usually don't read nonfiction, but I noticed this book got good reviews. Since Suzanne chose it this week I thought I'd give it a try.
