The Book Nobody Read by Owen Gingerich Buy book: $15.75
Part biography of Nicolaus Copernicus, part scientific exploration, part bibliographic quest, Gingerich's book will offer new appreciation of the history of science and cosmology.
I enjoyed reading "The Book Nobody Read" for several reasons.
1. I learned that Copernicus did NOT claim that the earth revolved around the sun but that all the planets AND the sun revolved a common point.
2. I learned how the present structures of colleges and universities evolved in
the middle ages with the Bachelors, Masters, and PhDs, MDs, LLDs, and DDs as
the goals of the literati.
3. I learned how things have not changed in college faculties over the last five
centuries, Gingerich taking a few shots at his peers.
I enjoyed the first installment of this book. I liked how historical information is being presented via the suspenseful atmosphere of a court room. I am looking forward to reading more of this book.
It's a small world, how we find out that long ago this man was probably the first to know how the solar system worked.
The silent majority wins in the end.

I like the way he has started this book, with the intrigue of the stolen Copernicus book. I don't think I will read the whole book though, just enjoy this week's selections.
Monday AM I thought this would be a "delete" for sure. But it is turing out to be the best out of all 3 of my reads this week. I don't know if I'll finish it but I am really enjoying it so far. I too love old books and am always looking for some to put in my bookcase. Not for any financial purpose really, I just love they way they look.
this only goes to show how unreasonable and hard headed religious people can be .
one can see the pig headed opposition to clonong and stem cell research of our present president .
may be in a centruty from now people will look at this era the same way we look at the era of copernicus .
I am looking forward to reading the whole book
I did not read any excerpts from this book, but looked at the comments section today out of curiosity. I was intrigued by others' but yours got my "goat" even though I must have a "pig head". Now, I have to read the book. I thank you for the descriptive review that will give my "unreasonable hard-head" a chance to become enlightened.
