don't think I'll be reading this one

September 26 2005, 1:46 PM

I'm all for a lighthearted read every now and then, but this seems a little too lighthearted for me. I will wait and see how tomorrow goes.

The additional read this week "Wickett's Remedy" was really good if anybody hasn't checked that out yet. I read all of the exert and think I will check it out from the library. It was really interesting to me. I enjoyed it alot.

Thin line

September 27 2005, 2:11 PM

There's a thin line between "lighthearted" and inane, and this book goes well beyond it. Delete, delete, delete, delete, delete.

I can identify with some of the shopping pull that she experienes. the descriptions of the beach are so vivid, i can actually see the group meditating. I will enjoy reading more of this book.

Thanks for preparing me for the Extra Lightheartness of this book.

She's (Rebecca) is not someone I can really relate to. But I did get some laughs out of the first day's read. Maybe this is just the book I need, too light and too frivolous.

I've read a couple of novels by Sophie Kinsella before. They are a lot of fun and a great escape from a busy day!

Shopaholic

September 27 2005, 11:38 AM

This one's not for me. It is amusing and I will read one more exerpt to give it a chance but the empty-headedness is simply too much. It doesn't look to be going anywhere I want to go.

Yuck.

September 27 2005, 2:13 PM

I'm as much a shopaholic as anyone, but what a vapid read. Don't see any reason to continue! Might be some people's cup of tea, but not mine. :)

I've seen these books cross the circulation desk enough that I'm curious enough to check them out. So, I ordered the first one. We'll see where I go from there. RHonda

GREAT

September 28 2005, 10:03 PM

I love this book so far. I'm definitely picking it up over the weekend.

This book has me hanging for the next excerpt.

It's definitely a book I can relate too, since I too am a SHOPAHOLIC!!!
I've never read the first book, but I will definitely pick that one up as well.

Fun book

September 30 2005, 8:08 AM

I've read several of Sophie's Shopaholic books now and they're great books. They are very lighthearted and frustrating at times, but worthwhile if you want a book that doesn't require any thinking but is just 'fluff.' I get a little annoyed with her constant spending when she's always up to her neck in bills, but it's still fun to read and you know everything will turn out fine.

Surprised at the negative responses

September 30 2005, 9:46 AM

I think this is a fun read and am enjoying the few minutes I spend reading these excerpts in the same way I enjoy a silly half hour comedy on TV. It is obviously escapism. I like it and I added it to my library list--I will have to go back and read some of the others. Thanks Suzanne for picking things that are not all the same!

Re: Surprised at the negative responses

I liked this book, I like this author. It always amazes me, too, because I usually don't read these sorts of books. I took a chance on Shopaholic takes Manhattan, though, and thought it was funny, and have read her ever since. I usually try to get her second-hand, though, because she isn't great enough to me to pay full price. After all that, this one is my least favourite of the ones that I have read. It just annoyed me to be honest, I think I was too busy that I forgot to laugh or something.

Sophie Kinsella

I love this author and her books. Lighten up people! I hope Sophie doesn't read some of the negative things you said about her and her books. Mom always said, "if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all." I have read all of her books, and can't wait for the next one.

Love Sophie Kinsella

November 1 2005, 4:51 PM

I have read all of Sophie Kinsella's books and truly enjoyed the humor of her characters. While this is not the type of book, I would normally read, it is a great book for those "blue" days! I hardly ever "laugh out loud" while reading, but found myself doing just that repeatedly.
