I Am The Wallpaper by Mark Peter Hughes Buy book: $10.35
Thirteen-year-old Floey Packer decides it's her time to shine. Armed with her trusty diary, some books on Zen philosophy, and a jar of violet hair dye, Floey embarks on a self-improvement mission. People finally notice her, especially the boy who really counts. But then disaster strikes
OMG!!! This sounds like an absolute perfect read! The books these past few weeks (which i've noticed, people have had mixed feelings about) had storylines that i admired, but i just couldn't bring myself to read most of them. but, this sounds awesome! i mean, as soon as i read the title, i knew i was gonna like it...I AM THE WALLPAPER... so creative, fun, and maningful. or maybe not, maybe i just look to far into things... ???
I'm so excited for my book to be part of the online book club! What a great idea to get sent a daily sample of a new book... I wish I knew about this sooner!
I AM THE WALLPAPER is my first novel, and even though Floey Packer is a girl and I'm a guy, I spent so much time thinking about her while I was writing the story that I feel she is part of me. Like Floey, I come from a loud family, and it was always easy to get lost in the noise. Now I spend a lot of time sitting in silence in front of my keyboard. Ironic, huh?
Ever since the book came out people have been asking me how a man in his thirties ended up writing from the perspective of the thirteen-year-old girl. Well, I'm not exactly sure, but here's a guess: I have extroverted sisters, and when we were growing up they rarely felt shy about saying what was on their minds. Maybe I was listening?

P.S. I'm excited to say that my second novel, LEMONADE MOUTH, will be out in a year or so from Random House. :-)
Oh My Gosh!!!!!! You wrote this book! Aghh!!! (happy scream, of course) i've seen chatrooms and stuff where in the past they've talked to authors, and i always wanted to be one of those kids getting to talk to someone like Margaret Peterson Haddix, so sorry if i'm a little estatic...
ahem. so, anyway... i liked todays read of the book, it sounds good. of course, it is still the first read, but i'm probably gonna end up reading the whole thing anyway, cuz the description of the book is awesome. so, thanks for writing this book and allowing us to read the first part of it online. i'm so gonna check out the website and can't wait to read Lemonade Mouth
(and yes, i too was puzzled that a book about a girl was written by a guy... but, hey...)
I thought that today's excerpt of the book was really short. But, it was pretty good. That would be so embaressing, though, if you got a way-too-small training bra for your birthday when the love of your life is there! anything like that ever happen to you guys??? BTW, i checked out the website...
Mark, I thought that it was a pretty cool site. The choice of colors for the icon and backround was awesome. Normally, I don't think I would've liked the colors, but on that website, they just looked right. I think that it was a good idea for you to do the haiku section, because it allows teens to write in, which is always fun. I also went to the Floey website... that was cool, too. Oh, and I never knew that authors taught writing classes... that's neat. You included everything on your websites, so
Two thumbs up! :-)

I tvery much enjoyed today's read, and I will definitely be either checking this book out of the library or buying it. Don't you just hate it when they leave you hanging like that? Who's the cute guy? What's his name? Do he and Floey get together??? I need to know!!!!
So sad that this week is over... :-(
And, one more time I'd like to thank you, Mark, for creating this wonderful story (and i still think that it's really cool that an author was here to help discuss the book!)
