The Inner Circle
by T. Coraghessan Boyle
Buy book: $16.85

Fresh on the heels of his bestselling "Drop City," Boyle's tenth novel features fabulous characters, a rollicking plot, and more sex than pioneering researcher Dr. Alfred Kinsey ever dreamed of documenting . . . or almost.

You've got a reading partner

You're not alone, I'm reading this book as well. What do you think of it so far? I haven't read Boyle before, but from what I've read so far, I'm interested to read more - perhaps not so much for the skill of writing shown as much as for the suspense.

Thanks for the read

It just occurred that I should thank the management that they are running this book with its graphic sexual content. I get complacent about free speech, but as a librarian I realize that it took some courage. Thanks, Suzanne et al for publishing a controversial book based on its merit.

So far...

November 30 2005, 8:24 PM

How do I like it? Well, so far I am very intrigued. The subject matter is, ahem, well, different? As a seasoned nurse it would take a lot to make me blush but I guess it's picturing WHEN and how these lectures were being delivered that is making me alternately feeling like oh, pulease, and then in the next instant....but tell me more, lol. I forget, is this all based on what Kinsey really did??? Anyway, I am liking the characters so far and do want to keep reading. I'm going to the library to check this out. How 'bout you and everyone else?

TC Boyle should be on everyone's read more of...list

A good friend who always lives in the moment sent me several TCB books and they are all deliciously different. The only common thread I see is that he picks a time, place, and culture to explore and he convincingly illustrates what the characters are feeling and thinking. His descriptive abilities are awesome. The stories are complex, often with many characters who have every sort of human experience.

If you are in any kind of reading rut look for TCBoyle and GO THERE!

I agree with Lisa

I agree with Lisa's views about T.C. Boyle's books. I especially recommend "Tortilla Curtain." Read this book, and it will stay with you for a long time. "Friend of the Earth" is a book that about the environment that gets you into the head of a protester. Good reading.

Uh, oh....

December 4 2005, 9:31 AM

Hello all, after 5 days of reading excerpts here and the wonderful comments on the author's writing I went to the library and checked this book out. HHHmmm.....it was on the shelf and I'd swear I was the FIRST person to checek it out: it is brand, spanking new which makes me wonder if the librarian didn't, um, shelve it when it first came out rather than put in the new fiction area b/c of the graphic content. That leads to my next dilemma: it IS VERY graphic. I almost feel like it's perverted and I do not think I am a prude at all. I'm just wondering do I really want to spend time reading this? I wish there was someone here who's read the whole book and would advise me. I'm about 100 pgs into it. I guess I can read the Amazon reviews and make a decision then..... Thanks!
