From the author of "Out on a Limb" comes the newest Claire Malloy Mystery, starring the bookseller sleuth from the normally quiet college town of Farberville, Arkansas.
Hello, Helen Gettelman, Irene, and anyone else that is too shy to reply.
I can really see why you, Irene love the way this week's book begins. I too can't wait to read tomorrow. Which of couse I mean todays read. Seeing that I'm from Australia and I don't get Tuesday read till late in the evening, or anytime on Wednesday.
I too, would not stand liveing with people that like to make there place like a dump. In the past I was with some job seeking places. Where it's there job to look for or get me work in the jobs that I want. Well, they don't do anything. So, I walk out and leave them, so they don't get my money that the government would give it to them because they are looking for work for me. But they do nothing for me. I would hear from them for months on end. Years can go by with out a word. So, that it. I now look for work for myself, by the internet and the newspapers, and by asking around. All I want to be is a Apprenticeship Baker or Pastrycook. I can't ever get any trainging. And what's makes me ever more mad is that in Victoria (it's one of the states of Australia) which is were I would like to live, there are lots of jobs there that I want, but I need the money to get there.
Lucky for Clair, she can do something about it now, then have to wait and see, like what I have to do. I'm doing things to get a job, but it's not just going to happen by just snap my fingers and the job will be there, and they take me on. I wish that to be true.
At last, one that tickles my fancy!! The last two books have not been my cup of tea but this one caught my interest immediately! I enjoy the sharp quips and humor of Claire. This is definitely going on my list of "to read". I'm also going to get more of Hess's books. Don't know how I missed this author!
I'm with you Dianna - did not read the last two mysteries - did like "the tarnished eye" by Judith Guest - but this is my first intro to Joan Hess and am enjoying her sort of light mystery and how about her melodramatic dtr.? - already got the book yesterday from my library - with two others by her - (sometimes we're in the mood for a book like "Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation") and sometimes lighter books -
FYI - I did read "The Rainmaker" by John Grisham a while back and it was on tv over the weekend - enjoyed it very much - a lighter book and I do recommend you rent the movie -
Must admit a little of a fun thing can go a long way , i.e. the dtr. and her friend with all their melodramatic dialogue - and not enough of the mystery to hold my interest - but did start another of her books - "Busy Bodies" - an older book which I am enjoying - much more of Clare and her compulsive investigating (snooping?) much to the chagrin of her professional snooper policeman friend -
If you are like me, you may want to give her a second chance with another of her books -
I am a huge fan of Joan Hess. I read both the Claire Malloy and Maggody series, She is such a fun and quirky writter. I love Claire Malloy and her TEENAGE dauhter Caron and pal Inez. I read the Good Body about a week before I joined this club. It is sooooo great. I got it from our local library and am thrilled this was a selection.
