Cale Alexandros was five years old when his family's starship was attacked en route to Morningstar, the lone outpost of civilization on a savage planet. Cale escaped, only to be picked from the wreckage by nomads. He endured life as a slave until a sympathetic trader freed him, but Cale never forgot what happened in the desert wastes-in a strange, ancient temple, when he found a book with strange metal pages and cryptic writings.

 

1st chapter beginning is a bit formulaic, but plot line is intriguing enough to have me eager for Tuesdays offering.

I have enjoyed reading the first introduction of the SciFi and will enjoy reading the next installment. If all continue as I hope, the book will be part of my collection.

I read this book when it first came out, and I was not disappointed. I am very happy to see it on this list. I feel like I should mention this, though: There is a pretty shocking scene near the beginning, but it is not representative of the rest of the book, and is not simply for gratuitous reasons.

I like his previous book "Ship of Fools" even more. It involves a huge, mysterious derelict ship in the depths of space.

This author avoids cliches and doesn't insult the reader by spelling everything out.

It has an interesting plot so far. I think I'm going to like it.

I usually only read scifi-romance. This book is very intense and vivid. I think I will read the other submissions before deciding if I will read the whole book.
