I know that I'm supposed to be the reader that never has time, but wants to try everything and all, but does this sound boring to anyone else? Where's all the light-hearted fun fiction books that we used to read?? |

I have absolutely NO desire to read this. We had an "inspirational" type book two weeks ago. Let's have some light-hearted fiction, please.

BookPage Review:
Role models
"It is your character, and your character alone, that will make your life happy or unhappy. . . . And you choose it," says Senator John McCain in the introduction to his latest book, Character Is Destiny: Inspiring Stories Every Young Person Should Know and Every Adult Should Remember, written with his administrative assistant, Mark Salter. This collection of short biographies of both the great and the barely known—in some cases, just snapshots within a life—highlights examples of personal character worth emulating. Here are presidents and prison guards, warriors and washerwomen, scholars and slaves—all lives that demonstrate how we can make our world better, richer and fuller. From honor to love, from faith to humor, McCain offers stories that help us understand what the human character can and should be. Written in a style that is both accessible enough for younger readers and thoughtful enough for their parents, this book rises above the ordinary. The senator is correct: these are stories worth reading and remembering, and they transcend politics of any sort.

Just thought I would share the above review of this book with you all - I must admit I was surprised to see this book in the teen section - not that it should not be - but it is different from your usual fare - I do think the quote by Sen. McCain from the introduction to his book is worth our thought and consideration - even if you don't read more -

Happy Reading!

Nope, I'm pretty sure we're just chatting this week. Though if I may make some suggestions read the Phillip pullman series with the golden compass, the subtle knife, and the amber spy glass. Also, the song of the Lioness series is good. |

I can see where you people are coming from, but I think it's actually kind of inspiring. Doesn't it touch anyone that Thomas More was beheaded for being pure, and Ghandi was inspired to be the man he was because of maltreatment by the Europeans? It's pretty well written, I think... better than the inspirational book of 2 weeks ago by far! |
