In Kellerman's provocative and suspenseful new novel, psychologist Alex Delaware's investigation into a sadistic double slaying leads to a corrupt multimillion-dollar scheme made up of equal parts madness and menace.
Seems to me I remember another psychologist and wife with a policeman friend - but am not sure this is the same one - If I remember correctly, the wife's name was Robin and she had MS and was a lawyer - they also had a dog which the psychologist took for walks/runs - I remember it was on this bookclub I discovered the book and read more than one - been a while back, so maybe this is the same dr. - anyone else out there remember another such mystery and author? -
Doris
You might be thinking of the same books by Kellerman, who is one of my favorite authors when he writes about Alex Delaware. His girl friend for years was Robin, and they had a dog. I don't remember anything about M.S. He always helps a good friend, Milo, who is a gay detective. If you like a good mystery with lots of character development, you can't beat Kellerman's Alex Delaware books.
Well, for openers that seize me by the FEAR organ (which ever one that may be), this takes the prize. I mean, the mental picture of myself, sitting calmly with a friend while my house burns down a few minutes from the restaurant..that gets MY adrenaline flowing, so what if it is vicarious?
You can read them in any order, or look in the dust jacket of one of the books, if you prefer to read the series in order. You'll enjoy them either way, I think.
Suzanne, I found the author I was thinking of -(thank goodness for my library's new updated website and a reader's response on amazon comparing Kellerman to author Stephen White!) -
White is the author I was remembering, Alan Gregory the psychologist, his wife Lauren with MS, an attorney, and Sam Perdy, the policeman friend - the moral being perseverence or doggedness does pay off - (with a little luck thrown in) -
Does sound similar enough to get me a little confused, does it not? - Well I'm back on track now - Thanks for your input trying to help me get my ducks in a row - Doris -
Doris, maybe I should check out the Stephen White books, since I notice that you must read a lot. Your suggestion sure sounds interesting, so thank you.
I have only recently started reading Kellerman's Alex Delaware books. I have read the entire Stephen White Series featuring Dr. Alan Gregory, got strted off this book group and have really enjoyed that series. Have you read Faye Kellerman's Peter Decker series? I really like that series also. A divorced LA cop with Jewish ties gets involved with and marries an Orthodox Jewish Widow. I actually like Faye Kellerman's series better than Jonathan Kellerman (they are husband and wife). Just some suggestions if you are not familiar with these authors.
I am reading Jacqueline Mitchard's new book right now, am really starting to enjoy it so got to get back to reading!
Thanks Suzi for recommending the author Faye Kellerman and her books. This is a new author for me and I'm looking forward to going to the library to look up her books. Should I read these books in order or does it matter? Some series it does make a difference. I'm always looking for new books or new authors to read.
You mentioned in your message that you were reading Jacqueline Mitchard's new book. What is the title of this book and do you like this author's books? This is also a new author and book to me.
I appreciate your help. Thanks again for recommending the authors.
Suzi, yes, I have read the Faye Kellerman books about Peter Decker and family. I like those books, too. I haven't seen a new one for a while, though. I am way down on a reserve list at my library for the new Alex Delaware book. At present, there are about 500 people waiting, so we have lots of readers who agree with us about this author.
I do love mystery and am enjoying Therapy, BUT, I also read in the non fiction club and have found so many good NF in the book club that I have not had much time to read mysteries lately! So many books--so little time!
It was probably a book by Stephen White; his main character practices in Boulder, Colorado and has a police officer friend. Alan Gregory is the main character, and his wife (whose name I can't remember right now) is an Assistant D.A. who does have M.S. That whole series is good too - and you are right, similar to Mr. Kellerman's! I read all of them and enjoy them all too!
Have my copy from library and am thoroughly enjoying - lots of "who done its and why" - with Kellerman's way of throwing in some of his personal life as well - a good read -
