I think i read this book last year
I don't remember too much about it, but the cover and the title sound familiar
thinking back, i remeber a few things
I think that it was a good book |

Okay so it's monday and I have read the first extract. I have never read this book before, but I sure hope that Joe learns some gratitude. I mean, yeah, I bet it is irritating not being able to see your friends when you want, but there is a bigger picture, like the family business, and finances. I'm sure he doesn't mean it and it's just his naivity as he's only 13 (at the start anyway). Working on the farm will help him grow up a bit - that's my prediction. |

Yeah-he should be aware that his family had finances but i think that they should get him the bike. He seems like he really wants the bike and it will probobly help him in being an independant. If they dont want to buy the bike for him, they should at least give him a gift of an allowance or jobs around the house to earn the money for his bike.
To me, it seems like all they have been giving him for his birthday for the past few yearz iz a cake. The least they should do is give him a bike for this birthday. He is a teen and he wants to be independant and be able to hang out with his friends without having his mother take him everywhere.

My mother made me work in the blueberry fields for my aunt and uncle when I was 12 years old. Very hard work!
I thought she must hate me for making me do that type of work. |

When I read the inside flap for this book, I was pretty doubtful that i would enjoy it. I usually read books about teen girls. Well, after the first few exerpts, I 'm thinking of reading this! I would never have picked this book up otherwise! : )

Hello eveyone in that will be reading this week book.
Well, I'm lucky to get this book at the library. It was just there for everyone to see it, but me. Of couse, I went up it where it should have been and find it not there. I went back to the computers at the library and see it still here for me. I then look at where some times they put the books up on this table. And there it was.
Well, I know just want it's like to really want something and your parents will say no, even though you have spent hours working up to do this big speech and waiting for the right time to been it up.
I can't wait to read more. I may have a peak at what happens, but I should just wait, just like Joe.

Ok the book was just ruined for me. I can't stand reading a book that includes some spoiled brat. It just ruines it. Even in real life my biggest pet peeves are show offs, spoiled brats, and being late. I just can't stand them! |

I think that Joe don't know about how much his family dose make in a week. I know he's 14, but still he may not have know how much it take to make that much money. He never had to work for it. Maybe it was true that all he got in the past was a cake. I don't think that they should just give the bike for him. I have to agree with Joe's dad, that he should work for it. Then he gets to know how much it takes to get what you want and he will be more appreciate he's bike more. I think Joe's mum is right that kids needed time to be kids too, but he's at that age now, that he should know what a dollar's worth.
I got to ask you, sunflower, did you know what a dollar's worth was before your mother made you work in the blueberry fields? I don't think she hate you, she just want to know what it take to make that much money.

Zoe I kind of agree with you on the whole what a dollars worth thing but I kind of think his dad could give him a couple of options for a job like working in the field working around the house like doing all his mom's jobs or getting a job in town that his dad approves of not just saying you MUST do this.
Also I really do think that Joe is turning out to be a spoiled brat the way he expects things like that and I don't think that Joe hanging out with Randy is such a good idea because he needs to learn the fact of life which is that you don't always get everything you want like Randy does because he takes advantage of his parents being divorced. I definitely would not hang out with Randy because he is a bad influence the kind of person that would try to get you to have drugs.

Sunflower I agree with Zoe your mom does not hate you something like that happened to me and I realized she only wanted what was best for me when she did it so don't worry your mom does not hate you she just wants what is best. |

You both have a point there. No I didn't realize what "earning a dollar" meant. That was the first job that I really earned enough to help with school clothes. Mom has taught us well. It's difficult being the oldest and having to "set examples."
That's funny about the child labor laws. I was twelve at the time! My mother knew what she was doing!!!!
This kid isn't as spoiled as I thought he was going to be. It sounds like he will turn around in the end. I wonder what the "trouble" with the field crews will be?
Enjoy the book and thanx for the advice.

I think I'll check it out. I'm interested to see how this entire 'delema' is solved. |
