Vision-sickness

June 26 2006, 8:08 AM

What's more frustrating--A leader with no vision or a leader with vision that changes on a quarterly basis? This 'vision' thing is so trendy that managers are scrambling to come up with a hip corporate mantra that if repeated hourly by all employees will magically make workers create sky-rocketing revenues. Give me a honest manager with character to admit that his/her company is actually exists to make a profit and you will achieve much more than making me memorize a fluffy collection of words designed to make me think I'm promoting world peace by showing up to work each day. Managers of the world guess what--workers want exactly the same thing you want--more time and more money. Wouldn't it be refreshing to work for a company with an honest vision: "We exist to rapidly expand profit margins while increasing productivity, lowering costs and crushing the competition."

isn't the point that they are trying to create leaders, not managers. Leaders don't always manage, they sell...ideas, things, people. They make the money.
