Cage's Bend
by Carter Coleman
Buy book: $16.20

Told in alternating voices, "Cage's Bend" is the dramatic story of the unraveling of a tight-knit Southern family. Damaged by tragedy and unfulfilled dreams, the members are nonetheless renewed by the unshakable bonds of love.

So far so good

July 11 2006, 9:45 AM

I'm surprised no-one has commented on this one yet. I'm really enjoying it so far. It may be the first book from this book club that I will follow through with.

Day 2... so far, so fabulous

July 11 2006, 10:37 AM

Why is no one else writing in? I am thoroughly enjoying these southern brothers and their diverse motivations as they run the same race. It's great to read the Louisiana flavor so far. I look forward to the rest of the week's installments, but I think this is a book I will want to purchase and curl up with, and then proudly display it on a shelf between The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood and Pat Conroy's Beach Music.

Cage Bend -

An intriguing beginning - what has happened - what is going to happen, etc. etc. - alas, my library does not have - if it continues to intrigue perhaps can get an inter-library loan -

Cage's Bend -

July 13 2006, 9:01 AM

On second thought, I may have to go out and purchase this book - I love Pat Conroy and as one of you said, it does have that kind of feel - It took me a while to get the title connection "Cage's Bend" - duh - do hope he is able to straighten back up by the end of the book -

Am hooked

July 13 2006, 6:50 PM

I *really* like this book so far. It has hooked me. It has that nice easy conversational quality about it....like you are listening to a good friend talk to you. I want to see where it goes and how Cage and his family deal with his bipolar disorder. Love the southern flavor as always too!

Love this book

July 14 2006, 9:24 AM

I am hooked completely. In fact, I was too busy to write after the first installment and here it is the last. I was thoroughly into this book from the beginning. I, too, like the conversational style of the book, the southern flavor, and the referrals to Tennessee.

I will be bookshopping this weekend and it will on my list to buy.

Cage's Bend

I keep going back and forth on this one. At first I didn't like it (I had a problem with him being billed as a southern writer since he lives in London) but I kept with it and I really enjoyed today's read. I've had a lot of free time today so I googled the author and found this interview which I found very interesting. I think all of you who are enjoying this book would enjoy this as well. This may end up being one I have to finish. http://www.bookreporter.com/authors/au-coleman-carter.asp#talk0501

Cage' s Bend

October 6 2006, 10:21 AM

This book touched my heart. It shows the real meaning of family. Helping each other in everyone's time of need. I really loved the way the author switches from one character to another, you get everyone's feelings and concerns on situations happening within the family.

Everyone has their own bend. Whether we come out of it or not it's up to us.
