Set against the backdrop of the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake, this novel tells the story of the daughter of a prominent physician, who is determined to live the life she chooses in spite of family secrets, acceptable roles for women, scandal, racism, and even romance.
I love the story so far! Usually I don't get very far into books that are set so far back in time. I love the concept of Jessie writing in her diary, and then it switching to 3rd person. Can't wait for tomorrow!
Wow! I already LOVE this book! I am definitely going to have to buy this book. We're barely into it, and I already feel like I am right beside Jessie in her room! What do you think about this book so far?
My prediction, from reading the first excerpt, is that aftershocks will be a really good book. Jessie, thhe main character, has a lot of will power and she is determined and any book that has a character like that is usually interesting.
This excerpt sounded OK, but I might not get this book... I usually don't tend to get that interested in books set in different time periods, although I don't know why.
I do, however, like her reason for wanting to become a doctor... I wonder if her little sister will often be mentioned throughout the book.
I love books like this they take you back to a time we weren't around and puts fictional story lines in it. this book has a strong plot so far. i think it will be very good can't wait for the next part.

I can almost feel how Jessie is feeling because my older brother doesn't think I can do a lot of thing because I'm a girl and also because I'm smaller than most girls my age. We fight a lot over things like professions that I can't apply for.
Wow I love this book I just can't get enough! At first I didn't know if I would like it but I love it! I can't pick just one thing I like, I just love it all! I can't wait till tommorow!
