Dr. David Henry is forced by a blizzard to deliver his own twins. His son is perfectly healthy, but his daughter has Down's syndrome. I read this book about a month ago. I really enjoyed it. The story is well told, very heart breaking. I actually listened to it, I would recommend it highly. Really makes you think about choices and that bad choices can haunt you forever.

Mystery?

November 6 2006, 1:12 PM

I read this book a few weeks ago. I thought it was well written and I've got it on my list to suggest at book club. But I would not have classified it as a Mystery. I'm glad Suzanne featured it, just suprised at the club it's in.

I picked this up from my library a couple days ago. Haven't started yet but a co-worker highly recommended it and I liked the first paragraph.

The thing about this book club i like the most are the recommendations other members give of books that are not one of the selected reads. I am looking for a laugh out loud book to read. I have been reading a lot of serious books lately that are wonderful but not funny. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have already read all of Janet Evanovich's books. Also, i have a suggestion. I just finished Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen and absolutely loved it from the first page.

Suggested Book -

November 7 2006, 1:17 PM

Danielle, may I suggest a book by Fannie Flagg - "Can't wait to get to heaven" - don't remember if it was in the club or not but it was a fun book for me - isn't it odd how when someone asks for a recommendation my mind goes blank tho' I have read many good books of all kinds - (keep thinking "must keep a list") if I think of anything else, will post - Doris -

good books

November 7 2006, 2:06 PM

I just finished "The history of love last night" by nicole krauss. i read it on cd and i laughed alot. a little mystery and a slight serious twist at the end, but still very funny and and sweet. alot like water for elephants that way. "Stumbling on happiness" is a lot like that too. a very serious topic with a dry, douglas adams kind of funny. im loving it. also check out some terry pratchet if you never have before. he's fun too. hope this helps. enjoy!

Here's one

I loved Water for Elephants too and would suggest Marley and Me for a laugh out-loud good time. I was reluctant to read it because I'm not a dog lover like my friend who loaned it to me, but I'm so glad I took a risk and read it.

This is one of the Mommy Track Mysteries by Ayelet Waldman. They are good reading and very funny. Enjoy.

LOL book

November 8 2006, 7:53 AM

I have another suggestion for an LOL book. Dolores J Wilson's "Big hair and Flying Cows" Crazy title, the story line is in the way of Stephanie Plum-outright funny at times. I enjoyed it for a light read, she has her new book coming out in March, more laughs coming!

Abigail, i looked at my library's link to see who Terry Pratchett is and i recognized him as just recently being on the best seller list. His books are fantasy which i do not always understand but am willing to try his first Discworld book. His books actually sound like something my 17 year old son would like and I am always trying to entice him to read. Thank you for your suggestion. I also read History of Love and loved it.

Suzi, I just put Big Hair dn Flying Cows on hold at the library. Thank you for your suggestion

I'm really enjoying this book. I like mysteries, and this appears to be one that will be added to my list. It reads like a made for tv movie. Can't wait to find out how it ends.

I read this book a few months ago and am reading 'Water for Elephants' presently. Both are a fast and interesting read.

You're Right

November 9 2006, 9:04 AM

I think you hit on exactly why I couldn't put this book on my "all-time greats" list. I read it a month or so ago and enjoyed it, but it does read like a made for TV movie (Lifetime Channel). Not bad, but not great, although I have friends who disagreed with me.

I can't wait to read the entire book - I have just ordered it through my library. I had already read a glowing review of this book, last week.

There are so many good suggestions, not enough hours in the day!
