Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl Buy book: $9.74
In this "New York Times" bestseller, beloved food writer Reichl, an unlikely master of disguise, presents her adventures in restaurant reviewing for "The New York Times."
I would highly recommend this book! I read it a couple of years ago when it first came out and the author is a wonderful storyteller. I read it because I'd also read her previous books, "Tender at the Bone", and "Comfort Me With Apples".
I heard this author interviewed on the radio, and she read an excerpt. It was intriguing, and at the time, I thought that maybe I'd get the book and read it. Now this exerpt showed up in my mailbox! I am taking it as a sign that I am SUPPOSED to read this book. Can hardly wait!
I like the tone of the first read of this book. Now cooking isn't my favorite pastime, but something about the repartee is enticing. Anyone else agree??
This book is wonderful! I read it when it first came out and truly enjoyed it. The book really helped me understand the world of a food critque; it's not all I thought it would be. The reading is enlightening, and very entertaining. Ruth's sense of humor always come through.
Had not paid attention to the author's name until I read the responses today and was so pleasantly surprised to recognize the name - I saw her on our public tv not too long ago in an interview from 1999 I believe - concerning her first book "Tender at the Bone" which was so funny that I immediately went out and bought the book and thoroughly enjoyed and laughed out loud in many parts - think it made it more enjoyable since I had seen the interview - a good LOL book for Danielle I believe it was who was looking for a funny book -
So now I must read the first two reads of this one -
As I came to the end of today's read and read the words "continue on Wednesday", I thought I CAN'T WAIT TILL WEDNESDAY!! This book is so intriguing. And even the cover of the book is funny - with her hiding her face.
It gets better and funnier - I also recommend highly her first book "Tender at the Bone" which is a hoot as well, going back to her childhood and experiences with her mother who was called by some "the queen of mold" -
Got this book from the library yesterday and read more last night - my only regret - it's not in large type -
