The Ride of Our Lives by Mike Leonard Buy book: $15.71
In this highly entertaining account of his cross-country RV trip with his elderly parents, NBC's "Today" correspondent Leonard offers readers a profound reminder that life's great lessons are more often than not taught by ordinary people.
This book reminds me of a long time ago when we bought a travel trailer and drove up the east coast with 6 kids, the youngest a set of twins. Also, when I read the jacket blurb it reminded me how much I enjoyed John Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley". He started out with the same apprehensions. Plan to read this book and pass it along.
Hilarious! This book reminds me of the stories my husband tells. He was the youngest of 6 kids, and his parents owned an RV. They took many cross-country trips.
When my husband was 16, and just learning to drive, he was "supposed" to be on a highway. His mother was "supposed" to be navigating. His dad wakes up and says, "Why do I see the St. Louis Arch?" Then he says, "And why is Doug driving!?" There was my husband, 16 and barely able to drive a car, calmly navigating downtown St. Louis.
My in-laws are in their 70s now, and only take a few short RV trips. I bought this book for Father's Day. Hopefully, I can wait that long to give it to him.
Yes, I absolutely agree, this is a must read and a must have book! Hilarious and so very straight forward. My 82 year old mother moved in with my husband and I last year, and we had been talking about riding a riverboat down the Mississippi. I guess it's our own version of a great adventure. After reading these excerpts, and finishing the book, I will make sure we give it a try!
I am loving this book! I\As I am sitting here reading the third installment I am laughing and reading parts of a book to my husband that he has never read. Yes, I too must see if my local library has this book.
