Summer of Light
by W. Dale Cramer
Buy book: $11.05

Summer of Light introduces Mick Brannigan, a thirty-something construction worker. After a bizarre accident, circumstances beyond his control force him out of his role as a respected tradesman and into the ignominious position of a stay-at-home dad. Wife Layne returns to a law firm, and she chafes at their role reversal--partly because she'd rather be the one staying home, but mainly because she's not at all confident that he is up to the task of training and shaping the character of their three young children. Mick dives in to manage the house and children, five acres of land, and a menageric of animals including a goat and a diabolically intelligent dog, and he and Layne discover new depth and truths about what's important in life.

The premise could make for a very interesting and thought-provoking book; I'll look forward to seeing if the author delivers.

Going to Be Reading This One

June 11 2007, 4:51 PM

Wow. I've been going through similar types of issues with one of my daughters that sounds like this boy Dylan. I bet through reading this book we will find out he has something like Asperger's or Autism like her. Thank goodness I have a wonderful daycare that is willing to work with her, shall we say, unique way of looking at life. Not easy to find, let me tell you. I'll have to read this one to see how mom, dad, and the children all handle living with a special needs child in addition to the stressful parental roll-reversal. Looks to be a promising book:)

Father's Day Gift?

June 12 2007, 12:32 PM

I have a friend from Georgia that stays home with his kids while his wife works.
He's wonderful and I am sure he would appreciate getting this as a Father's Day gift.

Luckily both families have great kids. Reading about Dylan makes you feel blessed. Yet, we all do have our obstacles...(mine is an unemployed husband who does not take of our kids!)

Hopefully this book is uplifting.
