Maddie Townsend might live in a town called Serenity, but there's been nothing calm or peaceful about her life since her marriage broke up. This stay-at-home mom has no job skills, an out-of-control sixteen-year-old son, a talkative fourteen-year-old who's suddenly gone silent, a six-year-old daughter whose heart is broken, an ex-husband whose younger girlfriend is expecting their baby and two best friends who think she's somehow qualified to help them open a fitness spa for women.

Not my type, but

I don't usually read contemporary romance novels, but this one has already grabbed me. I feel a lot of sympathy for Maddie and I can't wait to hear what she has to say tomorrow!

Not my usual type either

I generally don't read contemporary romances -- I have mostly stuck to gothic or historical. This is quite different - the character is older with kids (more like me actually), so it's a bit less of an escape than a romance usually is. Seems good so far, but in more of a fiction than a romance way.

I'm drawn to the story

Not to repeat what has been said, but this not my usual either, but this book is well written and I'm drawn to the story and the characters. There are a few predictables but not enough to detract from the story.

I will likely read this because I am dying to know what her happy ending will be. And of course what miserable ending her ex will end up with.

Me too!

I like this one!

And I've always wanted to have access to a nice gym for women. Those available in town to me are pretty substandard. So, I go to the one with all the sweaty men. :-)

A "Good Housekeeping" book

February 15 2008, 9:14 AM

Well, after reading 5 days worth of excerpts of this, I wouldn't bother taking the book out. It just hasn't really grabbed me, although I thought it would. A bunch of women opening a gym in a little town -- a little too ho hum. Maybe it would improve later on, but I don't have the patience.

It reminded me of the sort of fiction they would publish in Good Housekeeping or one of the ladies home journals. Two dimensional female characters and what appears to be a straightforward plot line.

I wanted to like this, but it really did not do anything for me.
