if I can read a book where the love interest is named "Pappy". I mean seriously, is she for real with that. I have read a few books from this author before and they were alright, but "Pappy" I'm just not sure. |

That's bothering me too. Makes me think of hillbilly grandfathers! |

I thought the same thing about "Pappy" and Sam is reminding me a lot of the ritzy characters in another sample book we reviewed not long ago that got panned for stereotpyical rich whiner-girl characters. But we'll see... |

I thought I was going to be the only one who thought the "Pappy" thing was just to far out there. I also think after todays read, I should let this one go. I mean the utter insanity of the situation this woman has gotten herself in is more than my heart can take. I want to reach out and slap her, really hard!!!!! |

mbg (no login) | Is she pathetic or just TSTL??? | May 20 2008, 1:33 PM |
I have trouble sympathizing with a female character who seems to have liquidated her assets and signed her life away because of "true lurv". Did she sign her brain away as well? She AGREED to a pre-nup giving her only 5K in potential assets? Sad!
Has she never heard the saying, "If it (he) sounds too good to be true it (he) probably is?" Or even P.T. Barnum's "there's a sucker born every minute"?
Of course there would be no plot if this woman had some skepticism/common sense, would there?
* * *
I'm rather intrigued so far...just how stupid can she turn out to be??? |

Linda (no login) | worth a week | May 20 2008, 3:58 PM |
I'm still giving this read the full week. I'm curious to know why Douglas Rainford has married and divorced so quickly, so many times. |

Let's see if I got this right. She dated him for 3 weeks, got married at the justice of the peace, and then had a 3 week honeymoon. She came home and was served with divorce papers, then she made stew (nice touch) and now she is going to join the FBI w/her best friend who happens to be a ex-supermodel. Yeah, I can see that happening.
I know I said I was going to not finish the weeks read, but I can't help myself. I can't look away....I guess that was the point. Well, all I can say is Job well done Mrs. Michaels. |

This book is like a trainwreck!
(If you want to see something funny, go read the reviews on Amazon.) |

For crying out loud, Thank the Lord the week is over. The trainwreck has been cleaned up. Move along folks nothing left to see. I did take your suggestion and check out the reviews on Amazon. My comments were light weight compared to some of thoes....to funny. This book was just absurd. I can't even finish it for a good laugh. I guess I'll read it the next time I'm getting a divorce after 3 weeks of honeymoon..............or when I need to make a pot of stew, I can build a fire and use it for kindling. |

I've been enjoying reading the entries of everyone regarding this Fern Michaels book. I've never been a fan of FM. Her romance writing style is something that was popular 20 years ago and is no longer relevant to today's romance readers.
NOTE TO AUTHOR:
1. I do not care what color my heroine's walls are or for that matter what style she chose to decorate her house in. Truly irrelevant information, especially when it is offered up by the heroine herself.
2. I also do not care what she wears. Please refrain from describing the cute pantsuit she chose to wear that day or the sweatpants she changes into. It doesn't matter.
3. Women do not pretend to be strong, they do not put up a face in front of their male co-workers in order to be taken seriously. We ARE strong and we do not wish to wail and cry when we don't get the things we want. Only immature people (male or female) do this.
Ms. Michaels continues to write in the style that has worked well for her and has established a following. However her choice to do this will not gain her any new readers. I would like to see the book club take a chance with some newer authors.

Linda (no login) | As for old school... | May 22 2008, 4:40 PM |
Hi fer,
While I tend to agree with your assessment of this book, I disagree with some of your comments to the author. I, for one, like to have the scene set for me, whether it's the color of the character's walls or the clothes she chooses to wear. Those details, when used properly, indicate things about the character that would be tedious if actually put into words. For instance, Sam chooses to wear sweats when she's feeling down, and a slinky dress when she's trying to bolster her confidence. I don't see anything wrong with that writing tactic, even if it is old school. Luckily, there are as many writers out there as there are varied reading preferences! |

It angers me that these established authors get everything they write published....even if it's utter crap. While new authors can't even get editors to read what they have to offer. The editors are too busy putting out this trash.
Hey Editors...take note....we don't care who wrote it, we just want our money's worth. Quit giving us junk.
Danielle Steele is another established author that comes to mind. Everything she writes now is pure drivel and full off errors. It's like the editors don't bother because they know these author's books will sell on name recognition alone. Enough is enough. Give us something worth reading.

Mbg1968 (no login) | I so agree with you.. | May 29 2008, 2:44 PM |
...regarding pathetic writing by established authors.
That is why I don't spend money on books unless I've read them first from the library. There is entirely too much junk being published lately.
There are still some really great authors out there, but you have to go through a pile of poorly written, pathetically plotted, no redeeming value stuff to find them. | |
