Conn delivers a sizzling tale of a haunted man and a virginal courtesan stranded on a Caribbean island in the 19th century and their futile efforts to avoid falling hopelessly in love.

Welcome to the preview of my book, Mango Summer. I hope you enjoy reading it each day and look forward to any comments or questions you may have. -- Phoebe
PHOEBE I AM LOVING THIS STORY....ITS EROTICA PEOPLE IF YOU LOOK AT IT AS "RAPE" THEN YOU ARE NOT INTO EROTICA SO STOP READING IT. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK PHOEBE, I JUST ORDERED IT FROM MY BOOKSTORE SINCE MY LIBRARY DOESN'T HAVE IT YET.
I was enjoying the book until today's read. I'm disturbed by Delphine having sex with an unconsious man. I'd be interested to hear how this could be considered anything but rape.
This is the sort of thing you read in the paper about people who have been slipped a date-rape drug.
I'll continue to read the excerpts this week, but there is a good chance you've lost me.
I agree with you. If the sexes had been reversed and he'd done this to her we would all have been shocked and disapproving. I also don't like Delphine's character. Sure she's been raised to be a courtisan but she should be a little hesitant or even timid about doing all she did, especially to a sleeping (helpless) man. I may or may not follow the rest of the exerpts this week. This last installment completely put me off.
Hello,
I can understand how Delphine's exploration of Michael's body might be upsetting. She gives no thought to his reaction, only her own delight in working her skills on a man. When he awakens, however, and complains furiously, she realizes what she has done.
Delphine grows from a young woman created to pleasure men to a real person with feelings for others as the story develops. I hope you'll give her a chance.

I'm sorry you're upset by the story thus far. MANGO SUMMER was written for the erotica market, which is sexy in the extreme, but sold as a sexy historical.
Fan response to the story has been overwhelmingly positive. Delphine finds what she's been taught, which is purely technique, and what she learns from Michael are two entirely different things. I would never dismiss the story as trash when the characters grow and learn so much from each other about the very nature of love. MANGO SUMMER has touched so many readers hearts, and fans of a real and poignant love story would never dismiss the book as trash.

I have to admit that I am a little taken aback at the sex with an unconscious man and I am glad that Francoise is not my mother.
BUT, knowing that it was written for the erotica market does make a difference. I actually will enjoy reading this book and seeing the characters grow and change as they learn more of each other.
I shared the excerpts with a good friend and she is dying to see how the story unfolds, as well.
I do understand how some people might be a little uncomfortable with this topic, but to entirely dismiss the book after reading only a few pages is a little judgemental.
Phoebe, as someone who read some of your older romances, I am going to give this book the benefit of the doubt, because I know your other books were enjoyable.
Thank you so much for your comments. MANGO SUMMER is much hotter than my usual story, thank you so much for trusting me to give you a great book. I hope you'll look for DAWN OF A DESIRE, a Celtic book out now which is pure historical romance.

I wouldn't agree that this is trash. The book is well written, even if I don't agree that sex with an unconscious person is acceptable. Regardless of audience.
Part of what bothered me about that particular scene is that Delphine is completely devoid of emotion. I can understand her being trained in that manner and it would seem more real, more human, if it had played out with a conscious man. Without audience, what is the point.
Simply because she was trained to act without emotion does not mean she is actually without emotion. It also bothers me that the man is the person who gives her emotions. If in fact that is how this plays out.
I'm sorry Phoebe, but I'm not likely to read. This really seems to be playing out more like a male fantasy. An innocent woman, trained as a whore, with no real emotions accept the ones you teach to her. Not my idea of a heroine.
Phoebe -
I came into this book on Wednesday and just had the time to go back and read Monday's and Tuesday's installations. I think my initial response was HOLY COW. I haven't read this kind of book in a LONG time. Historical erotica is a good name for the genre and let's face it, people had unmarried sex then as they do now. I'm not necessarily in favor of my 17 year old "hooking up" with boys now as the world is much more complicated than it was then.
I'm not sure that I would buy the book but I can certainly appreciate the fantasy of a great man and the "becoming" of a woman.
Good Luck!

Thank you for your comments. It's wonderful MANGO SUMMER has stirred up such a heated discussion!
Michael learns as much about love as Delphine and they truly are a perfect match.
As for the real world, I'm very glad my sons are grown! I don't know what I'd do with a daughter, except to make certain she had a thorough sex education and realized the consequences of her actions.
Phoebe
I am just getting time to read this today! I can't wait to get the book now! I haven't read a book like this in a while, but I am going to love this one!
