Wondering why Jennifer has not responded to the readers' comments as other authors have? ie Why the 8? Is it in audio for the blind? etc
I enjoy learning about a culture thru its food. Sicily is my Dad's home country. The Mafia Cookbook(Iannuzzi), Sicilian Home Cooking(Tornebene), Pomp and Sustenance(Simeti), Cucina Paradiso(C.Wright) include wonderful insight into the culture and foods of that small island's invasions, etc.
I have always anticipated the arrival of the Fortune Cookie at the end of the a Chinese meal and whether it has been eat out or take home the reading of the cookies remains a ritual we all look forward to and often share events that seem to relate to the truth of the fortune. Long ago Mr(Fred)Rogers Neighborhood showed the manufacture of Fortune Cookies. Jennifer Lee has reignited my interest in Chinese food/culture. thanks, Nina

I like the start. I really enjoy nonfiction that still reads like a great story. Even though I know the answer to the puzzle, she writes in a way that keeps me feeling intrigued. Plus I think it is wicked cool to give yourself a middle initial of 8.

Great Book!

I can remember eating Chinese food before I can remember eating Thanksgiving Turkey, and I was born and grew up in New England. I've never been to China, but I've heard our Americanized version of Chinese food is nothing like the food in China. I'm really enjoying reading this book and find it very interesting. Will definitely finish it.
