More cops

Why is the male love interest in modern romance novels always a detective, police officer, ex-military (or former or combination of any of the above?) I'm getting really tired of the tough guy image.

Don't forget.........

security guard, or my personal fav..... wait for it...............P.I. They are always former police turned P.I.
I agree Linda, it's time for some new blood. How about the new hero be a landscaper, or even a barista. Just as long as his former or current career has nothing to do with law enforcement of any kind. How many over the top good looking former police or police do u know personally. I don't know any, esp. good looking ones....I do however know a good amount of computer programmers, and while they maynot be movie star handsome (as all the hero's in these books are), they are real people. There is only so much escaping to far off lands and alternate universes we can do in these books, because face it real life is coming back and it's coming back fast.

Sounds Like Fun

Linda I think because in most cases men in uniform are so sexy!

This sounds like a fun read!

fun

Yeah, well the Maytag repairman wears a uniform too, but I wouldn't call him sexy. I agree with Chachi. It's time for a sexy smart computer programmer. Or how about a restaurant owner or the ubiquitous "Consultant?"

What's wrong with something more

August 1 2008, 2:51 PM

I assume we all live ordinary lives...what's wrong with reading about something a little spicier? I don't want to read about ordinary..I live it.

I say, "Bring on the cops and detectives, etc."

Ha!

Just like in almost every regency romance where the hero is a duke. Ha! In real life there are only a few dukes at a time and statistically they were mostly old and married.

I think romance authors tend to go towards fantasy and away from reality way too much! I just can't respect that level of disconnection from reality. Let's pretend is okay as long as it isn't just too stupid and unbelievable.

I'm all for the unusual tropes instead of the predictably boring, myself!
