I am suspicious of the driver too. It seems as if we are supposed to be suspicious of her given that when they were discussing the police incident she started to say something and then stopped herself and seemed so upset about it.
The main character definitely has affinity for troubles. Eventhough Terra is suppose to be a careless person, she does seem to care and that is where I think this will make it an interesting reading.
The author has very quickly managed to engage our attention with questions about Terra's past (the chaos over the past year that she refers to several times), the question about Amelia's concern about the police and the two girls, the connection between Jack and Leslie, and the question of if/when/how Eric comes looking for Terra.
I just finished the book and hated it. It started out so well, but then the Christians in the book became self-righteous and judgemental, and it turned me off. I hoped that maybe they'd see the error of being judgemental and arrogant but thats not the way the book went. We find the beaten down victim realizing the error of her ways and admiring the self-righteous. No thank you.
