Yesterday i was speaking with a great vet,he was a pilot in 305 Polish Bomber squadron flying Wellingtons.
He was telling me the squadron adopted a mongrel dog,he was really loved by the squadron and took part in several missions. After each mission he was awarded a small bomb to wear around his neck.On one mission which ciapek went on the crew was posted missing bringing great sadness to the squadron.
3 months later on a beach in England a Policeman noticed a dog barely alive dog lying on the beach he took him to a vet who recomended putting it down. When inspecting the dog on the collar it said _Ciapek 305 Sqd and the name of the station. The Policeman gave the station a call and asked about the dog the MPs confirmed they had a dog like tht and asked if he can bring it to them.
When ciapek was brought to the station the Squadron already moved out,the MPs took him for walks where he was very sad as no one Polish was left behind. It was then the MPs tracked down 305 Sqd who promptly sent a wellington to pick ciapek up,when the Polish officers walked into the hut ciapek recognised them straight away and started waggling his tail.He was now back with his unit.......its intrested to note that no one else survived from that wellington............
