When I first joined 553 my motivation was to honor the real men who flew and fought by portraying them with my impression and telling people about them. Several times I've had British Vets come up to me and tell me positive things about my uniform or my impression. The best thing was that I got to hear their stories. I'm 52 years old, did over 20 years in the US Army as an armor crewman/tank platoon sergeant, certainly not as hard as I used to be, and my moustache is gray and not one of them ever had a problem with me wearing my uniform or portraying an RAF officer in my impression. Also I'm having fun. You should do what you want. As Chris said, there's not one reenactor who was really there, as he said, they wouldn't be reenactors, they'd be Veterans. Hang in there.
