Response to RAF Caterpillar Club Badge
As a rule they were an unofficial badge and not allowed to be worn on the uniform. However, as the end of the war came and went, and many airmen waited to be demobbed a 'blind eye' was often turned, in the same way other unofficial badges like the Goldfish Club Badge were eventually allowed by some like minded COs.
On other occasions, you might find and airmen wore them when having a photo taken for example, removing them later (as they are only a pin on badge). I have a photo of one of the dambusters wearing his over the left breast pocket, while I have seen others on the flap of the pocket or lower down, on the pleat.
