Response to Ear Cup Types
The interesting cups (for most I guess) are the numbers 1 and 3 cups. I'll refer to these numbers further on in this posting when indicating a certain type of cup.
The ones on eBay look very good but aren't cast-offs from an original.
They both lack an inner lip near the base which helps retain the speaker.
The number 3 earcup on eBay also lacks the lip on the outside to tuck the leather under.
I've made these number 3 earcups, but my mo(u)ld has torn, as previously stated. If your mate doesn't make these, than I'll have to make my own again.
As for fastening the number 3 earcup; it's not glued into place on the helmets I've disassembled. The chamois doughnut is glued to the rubber earcup, forming the 'earcup assembly' if you will. It's pushed through the hole in the helmet from the inside so just the earcup sticks out, which is then stitched to the helmet around the base. The chamois doughnut is then stitched to the chamois lining of the helmet. I believe that was all as it facilitated replacing the earcups if torn or otherwise unserviceable.
