The buyer could simply have been someone who wanted a complete set-up, either in one lot, or a full original set up and was prepared to pay for it. As I say, even condition aside, you rarely get the full package like that, and some prefer not to get odds and sods and make it up.
With the mic, sometimes its a case of knowing what youre looking at. A few times ive seen something that isnt readily apparent and struck lucky. My Type 19 was minus the chamois, but i recognised it for what it was. It was otherwise complete, with the off/on switch, and so I made an offer which was accepted. It then gave me a nice restoration project for about £75.00. It might no be to everyones taste, which is why others might pay the £1300.00 for a complete genuine set up. But it shows all is not lost!
