Response to Two quick questions
The blue version of the Army's battledress was studied as early as 1938. The earliest I've personally seen is dated 1939. My earliest in my collection is dated 1940. These were all test issuances -- typically fielded within a single unit/organization. My 1940 example references Blouse, Aircrew on the label so that descriptor was in use already. Aside from some dimensional differences (pocket placement, pleat sizes, etc) they are essentially the same as the Suits, Aircrew of 1941+. The only oddity on mine is the Queens Crown on the label. You'll often see the same crown on wartime aips, as well.
