I remember years ago when Doug Arnold bought Lancaster KB889 (now at Duxford) from canada, there was an outcry over there. He only got it out after donating its engines to the CWH project to get theirs airworthy again.
When the rare Fairey Battle Charles Church had for restoration to airworthy condition was swapped with a Belgian museum (after his death) for yet another Spitfire, nothing was said.
I hope this story is not what it seems.
