Response to Type B research

Andrew

Its highly likely the man in question was a Canadian who had seen war service with the RAF who then later transferred to the RCAF, probably upon return to Canada. Im just researching a Dambuster who came to the UK in early 1939, joined the RAF, saw war service and then returned to Canada with his former English WAAF wife, later going on the RCAF Reserve. He was serving in the Recruiting Branch when he died in an accident in the early 1950s.

Obviously, with the service number the latter entry is the same man (assuming the details on the helmet are genuine and there is no reason to believe not). However, as you havent shown a number on the first entry I assume none was shown in the magazine, so its 50/50 as to wether its the same man. If you can get hold of any wartime or pre war copies of the Air Force List that should give you a few more pointers.

You could also send the details to the Canadians for his Post '52 Canadian service record, which would likely be free, and might have items blanked out depending on what it is and if he's still alive. But could give you some more pointers.
