Funny you should say that Chris. One theme constantly running through the film is the good natured banter between the RN and ASR crews, who are based at the same depot. Although the ASR boats are faster the RN have better firepower so at the end (in typical British fashion) the ASR crews make a rescue under fire, while the Navy turn up to 'see the blighters off'. But youre right, a lot of rivalry there, and it was strictly RAF kit the ASR crews wore, down to flying helmets and mics (without masks) for crew intercom.
