Response to A long shot...
on closer inspection of the helmet I have found his name and number written again under the flap of the rear vent:
I quick search of the London Gazette dated 18th January 1944 reveals:
1194740 Flight Sergeant Stanley James Pearce Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, No. 148 Squadron
Awarded the DFM. Hurruh first item in the collection I know to have been owned by a gallantry medal winner!
I have typed his full name and number etc into google and all I am getting as a result is the London Gazette page. Anybody have any other refrence material that might flesh out the story a bit. Would be good to know when he enlisted/discharged, what his trade was why he got the medal etc.
Any further info greatfully recieved.
