Response to kapoks

A 41 Pattern Mae West complete with its original dye marker pouch fitted, the only time I have ever seen this.

I cant ever recall seeing a period photograph of a '41 Pattern vest with a marker pack evidently fitted, most clearly having no such pouch sewn in. I wonder if it was considered useless to a large extent (like the flap of the flap type) and generally discarded mid-war (ish) onwards?
