The originals can't be taken afield without carrying a lot guilt. For a reenactor, the repro might almost be more desireable and hence commands a good price. Of all the pieces of equipment, I would say that the mic gets the most abuse as it is constantly getting banged about. All other pieces of equipment are worn in place whereas the mic and its carrier just remaining flopping about as there is no oxygen to breathe if it is snapped in place....
To own and then damage an original would be a terrible thing. It is much better to go afield with a repro. It is obvious that one will recoup the money spent on one.
Notice that the D mask went for exactly what Stephen sells them for.
Stephen told me that the rudimentary mold that he had for pressing the aluminum disc of the Type 18 had broken.....
I hope he sees that auction....
