A J, I'm back already! I couldn't email you because I'm getting an on-screen promt suggesting some kinda mail client or other hasn't been installed on my system?
Oh well, I'll quickly ask you here..I can't find any evidence of it, but It would help to address some hair issues were it to be acceptable...Did WAAFs wear snoods? Every pic I've seen depicts them with either the lovely hair styles of the era, or the lovely hairstyles of the era neatly tucked under their hats..Mrs 0lly does actually crotchet snoods from origional patterns because she'll wear them at events..Obviously if snoods were an acceptable item we'd have to account for that when ordering the hat.
I neglected to mention the tie..Yes, modern ones are apparently too sexy and shiny so we've already scrapped that option. We have found some cotton ones, plus there is a bona-fide 40s one on Ebay..Maybe that'll be worth a punt.
Mate, we've even got a kit bag! Its creamy white, and I believe we need to add a blue stripe? Tape or paint I'm yet to find out, but hell, I'm sure both were adopted with various levels of artistic flair.
There are some genuine WAAF knickers on Ebay too, but no...seriously, no. My tent got wrecked in a storm several years ago, and was later found in a dyke covered in mud and shredded. It looked better and smarter than those knickers though! And can you imagine buying them right, only to realise they have got more skid marks on them than the starting grid at Brands Hatch! No, authentic is good, but not THAT good matey!
Christ, I keep thinking of stuff. Look, you've done plenty enough already so please, if you feel as though yer uncle Olly is taking advantage, please just ignore me because it'll all come together with further research I'm sure. The badge..The cap badge I mean. It has some seriously big lugs on it! We'll call it a Prince...Na, i'd better not go there...Thing is though..I've yet to see a new reproduction hat that has holes already in situ to accept the lugs of the badge? Do you just poke two throught he headband then lack it with the pin? Not sure how that works, and we wouldn't want to mess the hat up uneccessarily.
Oh, we've got a WAAF pullover 40s pattern too, so that'll be a winter project for Mrs Olly..What with the Glenn Miller music and clacking knitting needles.Oh dear, has it really come to that!? lol
Again, thanks so much..I think we owe you a beer if we ever meet on the events circuit. Two beers..Thats fine lol. Cheers!
