Fighter Boys (Patrick Bishop)-has anyone read it?

I read this book a couple of months ago, whilst I was in egypt, along with  Band of Brothers-and I have to say both books were BRILLIANT, I highly recommend them.

With Fighter Boys I have to say that it's probably the best book I've ever read on events leading up to and including the Battle of Britain. I even found it very interesting to learn about the RFC during WW1 and the aces guring that epic part of history.

Does anybody else share my thoughts? Or can anyone else tell me about other books (preferably about the BoB) that they found enticing.

Ben

BoB Books...

October 27 2008, 9:45 AM

Ive yet to read 'Fighter Boys', although I believe santa has got it for me for Christmas... When I first read 'Piece of Cake' about 20 plus years ago I thought it was superb, but less so when I read it again after seeing the TV show. Ben have you read 'Fighter Pilot' by Paul Ritchie? He was in France before the BoB and is his story. Dont think it goes into the BoB, but I might have a spare copy if interested?

Thanks for the offer...

Thanks for the offer Alex, but we (as in my father and I) already have that book-but thanks for the offer . Actually we have lots of books, but they are all packed away in boxes.  I was interested to know what to read for when we find those books so that I have something good to read. BoF falls under a similar category as BoB for me!

Fighter Boys is brilliant, a bit 'heavy' but a brilliant read. I hope Santa brings me Piece of Cake...

No Problem...

As the Bomber War is more my interest I have more on that. One book I have tried to read a couple of times but not been able to finish is Richard Hillary's 'The Last Enemy'. Thats hard going.

Bishop's Bomber Boys?

I believe Bishop also did "Bomber Boys".

How do you all rate that one?

I see few copies out there bringing fairly high prices though.

Bomber Boys

Three books called 'bomber Boys' came out at the same time. Patrick Bishop did one (along with 'Fighter Boys - both easy to find but the hardback are the popular ones hence the prices), Kevin Wilson did one, and also Mel Rolfe.

Yes

Fighter Boys was a very good read-superb. I'm sure that everyone else on the forum would enjoy it, given that you can work your way past the tedious, but equally interesting, first chapters on the formation of the Air Ministry etc

I'm sure Bomber Boys is just as illuminating; however, bomber boys is lower down of my list of books to read as I'm more interested in fighter command.
