Hello to one and all,
I have been searching the old faithful net for the past few days to see if there was any info to do with the Regulation length on the RAF Officer's Greatcoat, to my surprise I found nothing on this subject. So , is there anyone out there that might know of any Regulations as regards to the official length or was it just a personal preference, eg just below the knee , above the calve or just below the calve, your expert knowledge will be most welcome.
The Greatcoat is tailored to suit, According to RAF Dress Regulations 1929, the it should fall 5 inches below the knee. The same is repeated in the regs of 1929 (reprinted 1935). In the 1939 Dress regs, it instead states, 'to reach to 14 inches from the ground..."
Superb, thank you very much, I did hear about the measurements off the ground but was not sure if it was true. Evidently this was to make a parade look more uniform / smarter , no matter how tall you was the bottom of the coats would all be the same height off the ground. So it was true after all.
