So my stepbrother does not have medical insurance. He thought he had developed soem kind of blood poisoning from a small punture wound. He asked to be dropped off at a for-profit 24 hour ER business. 30 minutes and $300 later he had a script for antibiotics and felt ripped off. Lesson learned, right?
That was about 2 weeks ago. Today he gets a bill for $1100! It's at his mother's place, but apparently it says something about how the amount paid was just an estimate, and that he owes this difference for some reason. It's stunning and just one of those things that makes me hate health care in this country. No x-rays, no blood work, just a doctor saying "Yup. Looks like an infection. Here's your script."
